These devices allow you to communicate with a network of 1-wire sensors directly from an RS232 port using simple ASCII commands. There are 2 models available, a standard model and an intelligent model. The Standard model requires that you initiate the poll requests and parse the data from the responses with your own software. The Intelligent model can automatically poll all of the sensors on the network, parse the data, and return an ASCII string containing the final values. The Standard model allows you more flexibility and provides you with the option to communicate with sensors and/or devices that may not be supported by the Intelligent version. However, if you are only trying to get data from standard sensors such as DS18B20 temperature sensors, then the Intelligent version can save you time and programming space by doing most of the work for you. Both of the devices have a female DB-9 port on one side to connect to the RS232 port of your PC or controller. The 1-wire connection is made on the other side using an RJ45 socket, which allows you to plug in a standard CAT-5 cable for the 1-wire network.
